Sir Elton John has taken a stake in a new app for country and western fans.
The musician has invested in CountryLine, a subscription platform that was launched in Britain and America last week.
CountryLine was founded in London by the entrepreneurs Simon Walker and Nathalie Cox. It hosts country music videos and interviews, and plans to introduce gig guides and ticket sales later this year.
Among other high-profile investors who have backed CountryLine are Ed Richards, former boss of the media regulator Ofcom, and Eric Nicoli, ex-chairman of music label EMI. John, 71, described CountryLine as “a wonderful innovation whose time has come”.
